Plant a Seed with SOFSA! 🌱The Syracuse-Onondaga Food Systems Alliance (SOFSA) monthly coffee hours are a great reminder of one piece of what this organization does: connect different people from different areas in the food system to break down silos and collaborate on how to make meaningful change. This morning we went to Spill the Tea Cafe in Minoa (a SUPER cute cafe - you need to go!). I learned about the obstacles a local farm is having to overcome and brainstormed some potential collaborations for fundraising opportunities this Fall. I always learn something new and never regret taking time out of my busy schedule to connect with fellow food and growing lovers! Our Plant a Seed campaign is happening now! Your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Onondaga Agriculture Council and 75% of these funds will be regranted to other organizations through the Food Justice Fund - a community grantmaking project that supports small-scale initiatives within Syracuse, Onondaga County and Onondaga Nation. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/eZ_sz_jG

In lieu of our typical monthly staff meeting we had the pleasure of hosting Emily Tills, MS RDN CDN for a lunch-and-learn on how to “Meal Plan Like a Pro”!Athletic trainers have unpredictable schedules making meal planning and eating healthy a real struggle. Emily provided our staff with so many recommendations for healthy “grab-and-go” foods that can be turned into quick and easy meals that have “PCC” - Protein, Carbohydrates and Color (fruit and veggies)!I highly recommend having Emily come talk to your teams. She catered her presentation to the challenges and questions our staff had, making it a really impactful hour!

I love this account on Instagram. The way the creator puts words and emotions into visuals is incredible. This particular post resonated with me this morning (or maybe it’s the algorithm finding its way into my brain?). At our staff meeting this week, we shared behaviors we associate with one of SOS’ Core Fundamentals, “Practice Blameless Problem Solving”. One of our athletic trainers said, “My mom always tells me to be a goldfish. I let small things get in my head and ruin my day when I just need to move on and forget about it.” Most importantly, I appreciated and respected her vulnerability in sharing that with everyone. I also loved the concept! It’s so easy to let our feelings (or worse, our assumptions) get in our way and send a perfectly good day spiraling. It wastes time and is unproductive, not to mention the unintentional ripple effect it has on everyone around you. Here’s to being a goldfish! Bring joy to your Friday!
